LOA: Art Space as Safe Space
On the 20th March, LOA offered up the unoccupied gallery space for medical workers to avoid tube commute and self-isolate. An NHS nurse newly reallocated to the Homerton hospital moved in on the 2 April. In her words:
'Thank you so very much again, honestly I can’t tell you what a relief it has been coming back to rest after shift without having to worry about my beautiful housemates getting poorly. I am very comfortable here! '
The help a small independent gallery could offer is space, as little as it may seem, it provided us a slight moral comfort in an urgent situation like now. However, in the past three weeks we have been thinking a lot about the art students, the young graduates and many artists who may be working in hospitality to support their practice. Please tell us how you could be supported to power through the uncertainty in the coming months.
